Lalu Prasad had wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi over OBC quota UGC scrapping for Professors and Associate professors. Lalu mentioned that Modi is floating to overrule the rights of OBC candidates. He was asking for a complete report over it and also claimed to an action would be taken soon.

Lalu defined in letter that Reservation, for any category is a constitutional right for candidates and not a poverty eradication program. He forced to start a hard movement soon against the scrapping reservation.

There was some benefits for OBC candidates for post of professors and associate professors, it had been scrapped by UGC. Now rule is, 27% of OBC reservation in teaching will be only applicable for associates. Where as reservation for SC is 15% and for ST candidates is 7.5% only. So there is a lots of profit for OBC candidates is about 27% of quota.

Lalu Prasad had claimed that the Center is doing away with 27 per cent quota for OBCs in recruitment of professors and associate professors in central universities and alleged it was an “attempt to kill the ideology of Dalit icon B R Ambedkar.”

However, a senior UGC official in Delhi clarified that as per the norms established in 2007, 27 per cent reservation for OBC candidates in faculty jobs has been allowed at entry level and emphasized, “There has been no change in reservation policy.”
